Íslandsbanki led Nasdaq Iceland in securities turnover in 2020

Íslandsbanki had the highest turnover in the Nasdaq Iceland securities market in 2020, with 888.4bn in combined purchases and sales of all listed securities.


The Bank’s turnover in listed bonds was also the highest for the year, at ISK 670bn, or 18.95% of total bond turnover, and in listed stocks it was second-highest, at ISK 218bn (18.2%).

For all asset classes combined, Íslandsbanki accounted for 18.7% of total trading. Second-highest during the year was Kvika banki (ISK 861bn), and Arion Bank was third (ISK 831bn).

A highly volatile year in the markets, 2020 was marked by the global COVID-19 pandemic and interest rate cuts. Equity securities turnover on the Exchange contracted by 1.6% year-on-year, while bond turnover grew by 25% YoY.

In terms of bond market turnover, Íslandsbanki was most active, followed by Kvika, and in terms of equity trading, Íslandsbanki was the leader, followed by Arion Bank. Íslandsbanki accounted for the year’s highest total turnover in all types of securities combined, according to data from Nasdaq Iceland.
