The previous record of ISK 199 million was surpassed with little over ISK 257 million raised this year.
The 180 charities that have registered with the Reykjavík Marathon will receive the entire revenues from the fundraising.
ISK 1.7 billion have been raised in connection with the Íslandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon since the fundraising event started in 2006. This year, both the half marathon and the 10K race sold out, with the event drawing almost 14,000 runners in total.
The Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon has long since developed into a major charity fundraising event that also helps to advance many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Íslandsbanki takes great pride in its support of the event and Icelandic charities.
