How to apply for electronic ID
Just follow these step-by-step instructions.
- Open the Auðkenni website.
- You can just enter your phone number to check if your phone supports electronic ID.
- If your phone supports e-ID, select the option Electronic ID Locations.
- Options for different parts of the country will appear. Your electronic ID can only be activated by visiting an authorised service point. Please choose the region that works best for you. For example, you could select Capital Region.
- The next step is to choose the service point you want to visit. Authorised service points include the various commercial banks. So, if you are an Íslandsbanki customer, you could select Islandsbanki.
- A list of branch locations will then appear.
- When you visit your branch, you must present a valid identification document (passport, driver's license from a nordic country or identification card issued by the National Registry of Iceland). Digital driving licenses are NOT accepted as valid identification.
- A branch employee will be able to help you with the next steps.
- The process should only take about 15-20 minutes.
